Am 28. Dezember 2024 hat die Landesarmutskonferenz Niedersachsen (LAK) ein Zeichen gegen das Erfrieren obdachloser Menschen gesetzt. Um 12 Uhr wurden am Kröpcke in Hannover ein Schlafsack und ein Kreuz niedergelegt, um still derer zu gedenken, die in der kalten Jahreszeit auf der Straße sterben.
Diese Aktion unterstreicht die katastrophale Wohnungsnot in Deutschland vor der Wahl.
Die Zahl der Sozialwohnungen ist seit 2014 um fast 400.000 geschrumpft. Das geht aus einer Antwort der Bundesregierung auf eine Kleine Anfrage der Linken hervor, aus der die Nachrichtenagentur AFP zitiert. Der Bestand an Sozialwohnungen lag demnach Ende 2023 bei etwa 1,072 Millionen. 2014 waren es noch rund 1,456 Millionen gewesen.
Fabian Steenken, Geschäftsführer der LAK (oben Bildmitte), betont:
„Die katastrophale Wohnungssituation in unserem Land schafft existentielle Ängste bei immer mehr Menschen, bis in die Mitte der Gesellschaft. Wohnungen fallen immer häufiger aus der Sozialbindung und werden für Einkommensschwache unbezahlbar. Die Mieten explodieren in Ballungsräumen, fast ein Viertel der Haushalte müssen sogar mehr als 30 Prozent des Einkommens für die Miete ausgeben. Das ist unzumutbar, weil dann zum Leben kaum noch etwas übrigbleibt, vor allem bei Menschen mit wenig Geld wie Geringverdiener*innen Die Spirale dreht sich immer weiter: Die Zahl der Zwangsräumungen stieg im vergangenen Jahr. 32.669 Haushalte mussten demnach aus ihren Wohnungen ausziehen. Etwa 440.000 Menschen waren im laufenden Jahr wohnungslos, 2023 waren es noch etwa 372.000 Menschen. Auch das ein dramatischer Anstieg. Am Ende dieses Teufelskreises steht Obdachlosigkeit und im schlimmsten Fall der Tod durch Erfrieren auf der Straße.
Diese Entwicklung sorgt mit für eine Verunsicherung in der Gesellschaft, wie wir seit Jahrzehnten nicht hatten. Sie bedroht unsere Demokratie, was nicht zuletzt durch die Wahlerfolge der AfD dokumentiert ist
Die Situation auf dem niedersächsischen Wohnungsmarkt ist alarmierend. Aktuell fehlen mehr als 100.000 Sozialwohnungen, was die Wohnungsnot sowohl für Menschen mit geringem Einkommen als auch für obdachlose Personen erheblich verschärft. Die Landesarmutskonferenz Niedersachsen fordert die Landesregierung auf, entschlossen zu handeln und Wohnen als grundlegendes Menschenrecht zu schützen. Die Aktion am 28. Dezember sollte nicht nur der stillen Trauer dienen, sondern auch einen Appell an Politik und Gesellschaft senden: Niemand darf in unserer Gesellschaft auf der Straße sterben müssen. Wohnen ist ein Menschenrecht!
Maßnahmen, die jetzt ergriffen werden müssen:
• Handlungsfähige kommunale Wohnungsbaugesellschaften ausbauen.
• Umsetzung von „Housing-First“-Programmen
• Wirkungsvoller Mietpreisdeckel
• Mehr bezahlbarer Wohnraum durch dauerhafte Sozialbindung
• Moratorium bei Wohnungskündigungen in sozialen Notlagen
